Designer and artist, Tachi Castillo lived in Taxco Mexico and made pieces like this fantastic embroidered skirt by hand for the tourist market. Examples of her work are in museums like the FIDM in Los Angeles. Castillo was creative and her work went outside the typical skirts you see form this time period that typically depict Mexican Folklore and village life. Skirts like this are the exception - this one for example depicts wild jungle animals - elephants, lions† giraffes and birds flit over it's surface, surrounded by brilliant flowers. The base is a thick cotton twill that gives the skirt body and each animal and flowers is hand done with a yarn. It is quite amazing! Excellent, museum quality condition. Item# S371
